AI for Teachers: 5 Prompts for Your Daily Work
Lesson plans, quiz questions, report card comments, messages to parents and differentiated materials. Five prompts that save teachers hours every week. Copy, change the details, done.
Teaching is one of the professions with the most "writing" work outside class time: RPH (daily lesson plans), questions, comments, letters, reports. AI won't replace the way you teach, but it can take over 60% of the typing. I arranged the five prompts below around the tasks Malaysian teachers do most often.
How to use: copy the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini (any free version works), change the parts inside [ ], press Enter. If the result isn't right, reply "change part X". Don't start a new chat.
1. Lesson plans (RPH) in 2 minutes
You are an experienced teacher in Malaysia who knows the DSKP (curriculum standards document) for KSSM/KSSR (the national curriculum) well.
Prepare a daily lesson plan for:
- Subject: [example: Science]
- Year/Form: [example: Form 2]
- Topic: [example: Nutrition, classes of food]
- Learning standard: [copy it from the DSKP if you have it]
- Time: [60 minutes]
- Class size: [30 students, average level]
Format: Objectives (3, measurable), Set induction (5 min, with a "wow" element), Main activities (with steps and timing), Reinforcement activity, Assessment, Teacher's reflection. Include one group activity that doesn't need expensive equipment. In Bahasa Melayu, in a format that can be copied straight into the record book.
After the result comes out: "Make one version for weaker students and one version for top students." Differentiation, done.
2. Quiz questions and answer key
Create 10 questions on the topic [topic] for [Year/Form]:
- 6 multiple-choice questions (4 options, one correct answer, believable distractors)
- 3 structured questions (2-4 marks each)
- 1 KBAT (higher-order thinking) question (applied to an everyday Malaysian situation)
Arrange them from easiest to hardest. Prepare a separate answer key with the marks for each answer. Avoid questions where the answer can be guessed from the way the sentence is written.
3. Report card comments / classroom assessment
This is the job that eats the most time at the end of term. Give the AI a short list, and it writes the sentences.
Write short comments (2-3 sentences per student) for the report card, in Bahasa Melayu, with a tone that is positive but honest and suitable for parents to read. Mention one strength and one thing to improve. Don't use the same sentence for two students.
Student A: hardworking, quiet, weak in fractions
Student B: active, often late handing in homework, good at speaking
Student C: [fill in]
4. Sensitive messages to parents
Write a WhatsApp message to the parents of Student A to let them know that their child [didn't hand in homework 3 times this week / was involved in a small fight / is showing a drop in performance]. Tone: respectful, calm, not accusing, inviting them to work together. Suggest one small step the parents can take at home. Under 100 words. In Bahasa Melayu.
5. Explain a hard concept in 3 ways
For students who "still don't get it" after you've explained it twice:
Explain [concept, example: photosynthesis / equivalent fractions / Newton's first law] to [Year/Form] students in 3 different ways:
1. An analogy from everyday Malaysian life (food, sports, village, city)
2. A short 5-sentence story with characters
3. Step by step, with one worked example using numbers
Then give 2 questions to check understanding that students can answer in 1 minute.
Bonus: tools teachers should know about
- File upload: Claude and ChatGPT can read PDFs. Upload the DSKP or a textbook and ask "outline 4 weeks of lessons for chapter 3".
- Gemini in Google Docs/Slides: if your school uses Google Workspace, Gemini can write straight into Slides for your teaching materials.
- Voice: the ChatGPT app has a voice mode. You can "talk through" your RPH ideas in the car, then ask it to organise them.
Save these five prompts in one note on your phone. More professions are coming. If you want your profession covered, reply to the A.I. Boleh newsletter or DM @aiboleh on TikTok.
