How to Build a Business Website with AI in Malaysia (2026)
A practical guide to building a business website with AI in Malaysia. Understand .my vs .com.my domains, Cloudflare Pages limits, and create a local preview.
Many shop owners, service providers, and small businesses in Malaysia put off creating a website because they assume it requires thousands of Ringgit or programming skills. With AI coding agents like Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, you can generate a clean, mobile-friendly one-page business website preview right on your own computer. In my test, both finished in about 4 minutes.
Before building your preview, here are the three basic building blocks every simple business website needs:
- A web page (HTML file): The actual file (such as
index.html) containing your shop's name, products or services, opening hours, and WhatsApp button. You can build and preview this file on your own computer at zero cost. - Hosting: The server service on the internet where your web page files live so customers can open your site 24/7.
- A domain: Your business's official web address (such as
.myor.com.my) that people type into their browser instead of a long technical link.
Three ways to build a business website: An honest comparison
There are three main routes to getting a simple business website today. The table below compares who each route suits and the trade-offs involved:
| Route | Good for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Ready website builder | Owners who want to arrange ready templates in a browser, without handling files | An ongoing subscription; moving to another provider later is often not easy |
| 2. AI coding agents | Owners who want AI to build real site files on their own computer | You own the files, but you check the result and upload it yourself |
| 3. Hiring someone | Businesses with a budget that want to hand off all the technical work | Cost depends on scope; small changes may mean waiting or extra fees |
In this guide, I walk through Route 2 — using an AI coding agent to build a working one-page website preview on your own PC or Mac first, before you spend a single sen on a domain name.
Malaysian domains: .my vs .com.my eligibility (Checked 7 Nov 2026)
When you eventually want a Malaysian web address, .my domains are administered by MYNIC. According to MYNIC's official domain buying guide (mynic.my/resources/domains/buying-a-domain, checked 7 November 2026), here is the exact difference between .my and .com.my:
| Domain | Who can register | Documents |
|---|---|---|
| .my | All individuals, companies and organisations from any country | Malaysians: MyKad or passport |
| .com.my | Commercial organisations or activities | SSM documents: Borang 9, 13 or D |
Four official MYNIC rules to keep in mind before buying a domain:
- Bought through accredited registrars: You register domains through MYNIC-accredited registrars, and payment channels depend on the registrar you choose.
- Price depends on the registrar: MYNIC does not publish a single retail price because each registrar sets its own pricing and bundles — prices depend on the registrar; check directly with a MYNIC-accredited registrar.
- Prices exclude service tax: MYNIC states that domain prices exclude applicable service tax.
- Registration period: Domains can be registered for 1 to 10 years.
Hosting: Cloudflare Pages free-plan limits (Checked 7 Nov 2026)
For a static business website (pages showing your services, photos, opening hours, and a WhatsApp link), Cloudflare Pages offers a Free plan.
According to the official Cloudflare Pages limits documentation (developers.cloudflare.com/pages/platform/limits/, checked 7 November 2026), the Free plan includes these specific limits:
| Item | Official limit | What it means for a small shop |
|---|---|---|
| Builds | 500 a month | Enough even if you update the site several times a day |
| Files per site | Up to 20,000 | A simple shop profile site is usually just a few files |
| Size per file | 25 MiB | Compress photos so the page loads fast on phones |
| Custom domains | 100 per project | You can connect your own shop domain when ready |
Cloudflare's limits page does not state a specific static bandwidth figure, so avoid assuming any free tier is "unlimited" in every respect. In this free guide, I do not cover cloud deployment — let's build and inspect your first one-page website preview locally on your own computer first.
Your first real result: Build a one-page shop website preview (index.html) on your computer
Let's use Claude Code or OpenAI Codex to build a mobile-first one-page website (index.html) inside a test folder on your computer.
Step 1: Create a new test folder (Shop-Website-Test)
- On your Windows 10, Windows 11, or Mac computer, create a new empty folder on your Desktop named
Shop-Website-Test.- You should see: An empty
Shop-Website-Testfolder on your Desktop.
- You should see: An empty
Step 2: Open Shop-Website-Test in Claude Code or Codex
- Open your preferred coding agent — via the Code tab in the Claude desktop app, Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, or by opening a terminal inside
Shop-Website-Testand runningclaudeorcodex— and select theShop-Website-Testfolder.- You should see: The agent connected to
Shop-Website-Testand ready for your prompt.
- You should see: The agent connected to
Step 3: Paste the one-page business website prompt
Copy the prompt below and paste it into Claude Code or Codex. (Important: The phone number +60 12-345 6789 below is a placeholder — remember to replace it with your own phone number and swap in your real shop details!):
Create a complete, mobile-first one-page business website saved as a single file named index.html inside this folder.
Use ONLY the business details below (do not invent any fake awards, statistics, or customer testimonials):
- Business Name: Dapur Kopi & Kuih Seri Kembangan
- What it sells: Freshly brewed kampung coffee, banana-leaf nasi lemak, and traditional kuih talam for breakfast and office meeting catering.
- Location: Seri Kembangan, Selangor
- Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Closed on Mondays)
- Main Call-to-Action Button: A prominent button labeled "Order on WhatsApp (+60 12-345 6789)" linking to https://wa.me/60123456789
Design requirements:
1. Clean, modern, mobile-first layout that is easy to read on a phone screen.
2. Organize the page into 4 clear sections: Hero Header with the WhatsApp button, Signature Menu & Catering Highlights, Opening Hours & Location, and Footer.
3. Keep all HTML and CSS styling inside the single index.html file so I can open and preview it directly in my web browser.
- You should see: I tested this prompt on 7 Nov 2026. Claude Code and Codex each finished in about 4 minutes and created
index.htmlinsideShop-Website-Test. Codex also generated its own food illustration and placed it in the page. Image generation uses more of your plan's usage and isn't on ChatGPT's Free plan. Swap that illustration for a real photo of your shop before the site goes live.
Step 4: Open index.html in your web browser
- Open your
Shop-Website-Testfolder and double-clickindex.htmlto open it in Chrome, Edge, or Safari. Resize your browser window to a narrow phone width to check how the layout adapts on mobile screens.- You should see: A complete one-page business website preview displaying Dapur Kopi & Kuih Seri Kembangan, its menu highlights, opening hours in Seri Kembangan, and the "Order on WhatsApp (+60 12-345 6789)" button (remember to change the placeholder number to your own!). If you want to tweak colours or prices, simply ask the agent in the same chat and refresh your browser tab.
3 essential safety rules for your business website
Before putting any business page online, check these three rules:
- Never put IC numbers or personal bank details on a public page: Anyone on the internet can view a public website and its source code. Never include MyKad numbers, personal bank statements, or secret API keys inside your website files.
- Check every fact the AI writes about your business: Read every line on your page carefully. Verify your prices, opening hours, address, and product descriptions, and make sure the AI did not add invented claims or fake reviews.
- Use your own photos or images you have the rights to use: Never copy product or shop photos from random websites or social media pages without permission.
Where this free guide stops (and what comes next)
This free guide stops at a working local website preview (index.html) on your own computer. You now have a real HTML page you can customize and test locally at zero cost.
Taking that local file live on the internet — purchasing a .my or .com.my domain, deploying your files to cloud hosting, adding customer enquiry forms, and setting up search engine optimization (SEO) — is covered step by step in the paid Bina dengan AI (Build with AI) recipe, which is coming soon (akan datang).
